2014 Review – 2014

Let’s hear what they’ve say…………. Impression of Skid Row It’s been almost 13 years since July 2002 till now that I have served hot meal outreach for homeless, Care Mission USA just took over the program from September 2014, and cooperated with Pastor Frank Guerra. First of all, I would like to thank Care Mission USA gives me this opportunity to run the program, and all the volunteers join the team work as a family members. It becomes a routine work for every single volunteer that takes it as a personal job, and works in a happy and harmony environment. Secondly, there are more teenage, high school, college students that come to join and help for the program, it is likely that they plant a seed to the soil of happiness, care and serve their own community, take action for their own environment, it’s kind of responsibility and respect, hopefully, they could arouse more of their friends and family to join and support the program. We have to get fresh food on every Saturday morning, prepare hamburger bun and custard cake ingredients, ice lemon tea, banana, ice cream, … etc. on Sunday morning. It’s likely that we run a burger restaurant. Hopefully, Care Mission USA can get more people join the team; keeps the program running forever, not only in hot food serving, but also in medical care in the future.

From: Danny Oliver arc at Bright Star has taken a part in the Care-Mission USA serving the homeless living in the part of downtown Los Angeles known as Skid Row for five consecutive months. Many of the students that have taken part in this service had not yet been exposed to the extreme conditions that currently plague that population of Los Angeles. Leader, Mentor and Role Model, Danny Oliver. who has participated with the Caremission USA for a number of years was able to bring to arc and these students the opportunity to assemble lunches for more than 300 people living on the streets. The good relationship that Danny has fostered with the Care-Mission leaders allowed these students to feel supported, safe and able to ask questions about the unfamiliar things being witnessed that day.

Emily Milan a 10th grade student walked the streets of Skid Row for the first time and after a few minutes she became invested in the action of helping even if that action was putting spread on a bun to put on top of a hamburger.

The development of character of the students participating was similarly shown by the effort and time commitment these students and their willingness to commit with the CARE foundation outside of arc. Mayra Duarte a graduating senior expressed the blessing she feels after witnessing the scarcity of normal things in the lives of these people.

The Care-Mission USA has been an great partner to Bright Stars after school program arc. arc continues to take students from Bright Star every two last Sundays of the month to continue the service and mission of giving back to the less fortunate. The CARE missions leaders have been great role models to the students since the begging.

Emily Martin 10
